Make sure to pay close attention to the condition of the compressor, and check the outside of the unit to look for any trace of oil. You will definitely need to replace it with the correct product, rather than something that you simply buy off a shelf. If in doubt, have a look at the owner's manual or refer to a sticker that details the specification. The sticker may be found next to the compressor itself.
Service Time
When all is said and done, however, the refrigerant itself is the lifeblood of the system. This may need to be recharged during a typically hot summer season, and if so, you need to take the vehicle in to see an experienced mechanic. The job requires special tools, and the refrigerant itself has to be carefully handled according to the regulations.
